Exciting Start to the 4th Term

Welcome to new beginners in Warragul and Neerim South classes. The International 42 has replaced the Sun 73 on Monday and Wednesday nights, it is always exciting to start a new routine. For many students this is their first advanced routine after the Beijing 24. Thursday afternoon we are taking a breather to refine routines learned a long time ago. It is always good to revisit routines with more experienced mind and body and discover new depths.

Demonstrations

Master Charles' visit this term was very special. In his lesson he focused on White Crane Spreads Its Wings by guiding everyone to play out the application with a partner.
This was followed by a student demonstration of the 73 Movement Sun Style.
Master Charles treated us to a fabulous demonstration of the International 42 which is the routine senior students will be learning next term.

Nine Students Received Their Level 1 Grading

Congratulations to Warragul students on successfully completing their Level One Grading on Saturday August 27th.

It was over a year ago that they started attending a grading class in Warragul taught by Sifu Chris and assisted by Bradley Jarvis and Anita Chudleigh. Their enthusiasm and sheer hard work was well rewarded on the day with each student comfortably passing. They were examined by three Black Sash instructors, Sifu Di Logan and Sigung Charles who moderated the procedures.

Congratulations to:
Nola Anderson, Ruby Fry, Barbara Calton, Marina Morton, Gwen Brown, Anda McMillan, Linda Tropea, Jennifer Nelson and Chris Brown

Study Found that Tai Chi Does Slow Down Aging

In May 2009 many Warragul and Neerim South students contributed their "spit" to science.

The study is now completed and the Murdoch Children's Research Institute has informed us of their findings. Here is a quote from the research team;

"The study used the DNA we obtained and isolated from the mouth‐wash samples we collected from you. We designed an experimental strategy to measure changes in the DNA prepared from tai chi practitioners and from people who had never done tai chi. We looked specifically at genes whose functions normally decline with age. Our measurements revealed that regular tai chi practice appeared to slow down such a decline, at least in the few genes we had selected for our study.

This preliminary finding, whilst exciting, clearly needs further investigation before we can be confident of its validity. If the results can be confirmed, it would suggest that tai chi practice can influence how our genes work, and would allow us to begin to understand the mechanisms by which tai chi brings about its many health and disease benefits. We are currently in the process of applying for new fundings to continue with the project."

The Lions Roar - Spring 2011 edition

The spring edition of The Lions Roar is here, and again it is packed with information and great articles.

Dai Sifu explains the new ways in which Golden Lion is going to be distributing informations, which will involve more internet and email (the printed newsletter will still be available on request). It is very important to read this and have your say in how you want to receive news. It is hoped that everyone gets more information quicker.

There is also the date of the Golden Lion Academy's 40 year anniversary show which needs to go into your diary.

Well done to Si Hing Kris and Si Hing Julius on completing their 2nd degree black belt grading, Mathew Dawe gives an account of the grading and how inspirational it was.

Emily Wong writes about the experience of competing for the first time at the recent 2011 Australasian Kung Fu, Tai Chi and Wushu Championship, she highlights how the hard work training and support from the Golden Lion masters and fellow students really prepared her for a great day and successful competition.
